1992 GMC Syclone #0001

When the Syclone project was started, GMC was prepared to produce a minimum of 2500 units per year. For the 1992 release, the Syclone would have no major change other than a few cosmetic differences. Before production began and ultimately canceled, the 1992 GMC Syclone 0001 truck would be used for crash test data for the DMV to establish a safety standard.

This truck was never registered. After testing was complete, it was bought by Maldaver when the Syclone production was canceled and PAS closed its doors. The reported sale totaled $600. The truck resides in a private junkyard in New York. Multiple attempts over 25 years have been made to purchase and "save" the wrecked truck so what remains can continue to exist. All offers have been turned down and the truck has remained in the same spot.

Due to GMC Syclone 0001 being used as a crash test vehicle, it was painted multiple colors in various areas to help collect the data from the controlled crash. From inspections of being able the truck, the VIN plate is still shown behind the windshield, but no VIN # is stamped on the frame. Unfortunately, the paperwork for the crash test data has never been made readily available. ISTR believes this paperwork does exist and may be part of someone's truck collection from a previous sale of a prototype truck.
